About Us

Our vision is of a society in which persons with disability live with dignity, and in which their human rights and fundamental freedoms are recognised, respected, protected and fulfilled. Our purpose is to work towards the realisation of our vision by providing persons with disability and their associates with specialist legal assistance in our designated practice areas, and by undertaking complementary community legal education, continuing legal education and policy and law reform activities. The Australian Centre for Disability Law (ACDL) was set up in 1994 as a specialist Community Legal Centre, working towards a world where people with disabilities are able to participate in all aspects of life. Read about our history.

Our Management Committee comprises of the following volunteers: Chairperson (Rosemary Kayess), Vice Chair (Jenny Green), Secretary (Julian Laurens), Treasurer (vacant), and other committee members (Samantha French, Mark Rae and Giancarlo de Vera). Read more about the management committee.

The Australian Centre for Disability Law is operated by a team of paid staff and volunteers. You can read more about our staff here.

Australian Centre for Disability Law is primarily funded by the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department as well as the NSW Attorney General’s Department.
