History

The Australian Centre for Disability Law (ACDL) was set up in 1994 as a specialist Community Legal Centre, working towards a world where people with disabilities are able to participate in all aspects of life.

We promote and protect the human and legal rights of people with disability and their supporters through legal advocacy. We do this by providing free legal advice and representing people with disability discrimination cases.

Through our work we proactively aim for recognition and respect of human and legal rights, remove barriers, eliminate discrimination, empower people with disability, and increase provision of access to justice.

The new name of Australian Centre for Disability Law came into effect on 16 September 2011, replacing the former name of NSW Disability Discrimination Legal Centre Inc.

ACDL is incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act 2009 (NSW).
